CPC provides geospatial and scientific support to many of the NOAA National Marine Sanctuaries. Over the last several years, the NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS) has been conducting both existing Sanctuary Expansion as well as new Sanctuary Nominations.
CPC and ONMS staff at Flower Garden Bank National Marine Sanctuary created this story map to enable the public and stakeholders to explore the proposed sanctuary expansion, along with other data layers of interest such as fishing, oil and gas, military, and biology.
These StoryMaps help generate public comment and participation, and they provide a means to update the public while driving interest in these “underwater national parks” managed by ONMS.
